Essential Elements for a Successful Webinar

Discover how expert life coaching can help you achieve your goals and unlock your full potential with engaging strategies for success
I have delivered over 100 webinars now and they are fun to do! So, I have learned a thing or two about doing webinars.
Creating Engaging Webinar Slides

Enhance your presentations with professional designs—discover the creative process behind stunning slides in Canva or PowerPoint
Slides or slide deck as they’re also known. These are a way to get your content in front of your audience, your words and pictures. Remember there are four predominant learning styles: Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinaesthetic. The combination of you on camera speaking and the content of your slides will help to cover all bases to appeal to the different learning styles of the individuals in your audience.
You can produce your slides in Google slides, PowerPoint or Canva amongst others. Avoid a templated corporate set of slides using a standard header and footer where the background is the same from slide to slide and only the content changes. Your audience will slowly zone out as each slide looks like the previous. Use bold colours and change the layout from slide to slide. This is a pattern interrupt and will help keep your audience engaged.
Choosing the Right Webinar Platform

Gain valuable insights with a comprehensive webinar dashboard—track attendee engagement, audience demographics, and performance metrics
Webinar platform - the key ingredient. There are so many to choose from, it’s overwhelming. Do your research and pick the one you like and keep in mind the features I described in my previous post on this subject.
Email Service Provider: Building Your List
you may already have one you should be adding your webinar registrants to a list and keeping them warm, eventually they may convert into a customer or client.
Webinar Equipment: What You Need to Get Started

Set up a professional home studio with proper lighting, camera gear, and a polished workspace to deliver engaging webinars and online courses
Camera Selection for Webinars

Upgrade your video quality with an external camera—see the difference between a built-in webcam and a high-resolution Logitech Brio
I recommend a Logitech brio, the C920 is also very good. Inbuilt webcams aren’t always good enough and might not be positioned where they need to be.
Choosing the Right Microphone

Enhance your audio quality with the Blue Yeti microphone—perfect for podcasts, webinars, and virtual meetings
inbuilt mics are ok for calls but not good enough for recorded videos and webinars. The quality of your voice helps establish a human connection with your audience, I use a Blue Yeti.
Proper Lighting for Webinars

Lighting Setups Explained: Key Techniques for Video and Photograph
Lighting - if you can stand in front of a window where there’s plenty of natural daylight, do it. Otherwise look at ring lights and other options, there is abundance to choose from on Amazon. Avoid shadows.
Background and Setup Considerations

Enhance your productivity with a tidy and professional home office setup, featuring ergonomic furniture and stylish organization
either arrange to be in front of an attractive background or consider using a green screen where you can superimpose a nice image or video which may add interest to your broadcast.
The Benefits of a Stand-Up Desk

Present with energy and confidence—discover the benefits of using a stand-up desk for dynamic and engaging presentations
It’s optional, but I have a stand-up desk - if you were to be presenting to an audience in a room, chances are you’d be standing up. This is great for posture, energy, projection and of course you can move a little. Helps with confidence. You can sit down, but I believe the benefits of standing up in a webinar are worth it. Plus you can use it for working in the day to avoid being stuck in your chair all day.
Ensuring a Strong Internet Connection

Boost your internet reliability with a wired connection—ensure seamless online meetings and work productivity by using an Ethernet cable
Ethernet cable - webinars are resource and bandwidth hungry. Wi-fi can be flaky, I recommend using an ethernet cable to connect your PC to your router when running webinars. You’ll get a much more reliable and solid connection. I bet your broadband speed will increase dramatically also. You want to do everything in your power to offer a great webinar experience to your audience.
Tips for Delivering a Successful Webinar

Prepare for a successful webinar by practicing with a friend—build confidence, receive feedback, and refine your presentation skills.
Pre-Webinar Preparation
As you should be running your webinars regularly (I recommend weekly), you should have a checklist where you run through things like - check face for unwanted items and teeth for food, take a bathroom visit beforehand, check the camera and microphone are working, spin through your slides to name but a few. My checklist grew and grew, I have a passion for optimising and improving. So have a checklist and run through it an hour before each webinar so you can start your presentation in a relaxed frame of mind. As you grow more comfortable you can reduce the hour to 30 minutes or so.
Do one or more dry runs - deliver your webinar with no audience (or maybe a friend who can provide feedback). Do it a few times to become comfortable with the tech and the content.
Do a voice warm up - get ready to be on stage, swing your arms, get the blood flowing. Have your voice strong and ready to talk.
Have a glass of water at hand to sip during the webinar, between slides is a good time to do this.
Smile lots, be friendly. You are selling yourself as well as your product or service.
Engaging Your Audience

Boost audience engagement by interacting with live chat—connect with your viewers and create a dynamic webinar experience
Start the webinar (not the actual presentation) 10 mins early and chat with people waiting for it to start - establish some rapport. “Where are you from, how’s your day” etc.
Start the presentation ON TIME. Why wait for late comers when others are on time? It is disrespectful to them. People’s time is precious and I think it is wrong to make them wait for latecomers. You also need to think of your own reputation for timeliness.
Do some housekeeping, explain if there will be a copy of the slides made available or not and if there will be a replay or not. Careful here, some people may hear you have a replay and then just abandon the live webinar.
Signpost the event - a brief agenda, tell attendees what to expect, how long it will take.
Keeping Your Audience Hooked
Hook your audience - explain that you have an amazing free gift - maybe a lead magnet you already use - arouse curiosity and give some clues but don’t explicitly tell them what they are going to get. You will give this amazing free gift away at the end of the webinar to those who stay. This technique may increase your attendance figures.
If you are going to make an offer at the end, I would suggest it could be polite to tell people at the start rather than spring an offer on them at the end which may seem too “salesey”. If they know up front that you are going to make an offer, I think it makes it more acceptable when you do.
Provide some good value in your presentation. If your audience are convinced you know your stuff and have really benefitted from your content, there is a greater likelihood they will become a paying customer. If not now then later.
Structuring Your Presentation Effectively

Lead your audience across the bridge from uncertainty to success with confidence, clarity, and effective guidance
Avoid reading out the content of your slides word for word; rather, use the content as reminders of what you want to talk about so you cover everything.
The wording and structure of your presentation are so very, very important. You are building a bridge between where your audience are now and where they want to get to. The psychology of what you say and how you say it will have a huge influence on people in persuading them to convert from an attendee into a customer.
Ending Your Webinar with Impact

End your presentation with impact—use a 'Thank You' slide featuring a clear call-to-action to drive engagement and next steps
At the end make your offer and present a web page where your audience can make a purchase or booking.
Have a Q&A and consider creating FAQs from these as webinar content.
Be sure to include your contact details so people can contact you if they wish.
Close your webinar. Look at the viewing statistics. Possibly tweak your slides. Rinse and repeat.
